2012 — A Return to Running
2012 marked a long awaited return to running after one year of being sidelined due to injury. In that year, I learned a lot about my body, and the determination and patience it takes to heal. As the year ended, I was particularly grateful for pacing a runner at the American River 50 Mile, completing two long-distance training runs in the Sierras, running two 50 Km races, and finishing four Marathons.
And though I was disappointed that I did not fulfill my goal of qualifying for Western States after dropping at Firetrails 50 Mile, I had many other reasons to celebrate 2012 — such as running through the rain and mud at The North Face Marathon in December and being selected in two lotteries for 2013: Way too Cool 50 Km and Miwok 100 Km.
In addition to races in California, in 2013 I am excited to be traveling to Colorado for the 3-day solo Transrockies Run, and to Leadville for a running triptych: a running camp, a marathon, and to pace a friend who is running their first Leadville 100 Mile. This year then, my main goal is to stay injury free and finish all my races, but I am not-so-secretly-hoping-to-qualify-for-Western-States once again.
